Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Selim Belortaja received a large group of representatives of Swedish private companies today, who are in Albania to explore opportunities for economic cooperation and investments.

After extending his welcome to the Swedish guests, Deputy Minister Belortaja gave a brief overview of the political and socio-economic development in Albania and on the relations between our two countries and economies; he touched, in particular, on the major and unutilized potentials that the Albanian economy possesses for the investing initiatives of the Swedish private business.

While commending the image that the Swedish product and performance enjoys, especially in areas like mining industry, metals, machine production, electric and electronic industry and  in the “High-Tech” sectors as a whole, Mr. Belortaja emphasized that the Swedish performance could also extend in other areas of production and services in Albania, as in infrastructure and tourism.  Then, Mr. Belortaja stated that “Albania does not receive foreign business in a passive way; it is convinced that in order to set up functional enterprises, a serious bid is also required on our part, which goes much further then natural resources, geographical position or even the country’s wonderful climate.

He went on briefing the Swedish guests on the serious commitments of Albanian Government, in view of establishing the best possible business climate and  attracting foreign investors in Albania.

Deputy Minister Belortaja mentioned that the strengthening of institutions and the rule of law, political and economic stability, the regulatory frame and infrastructure are priorities of the Government; he stressed that our country has witnessed systematic boost of economic standards and that the Government has been worked on devising fiscal policies supportive of domestic and foreign investments.

On their part, the representatives of Swedish business thanked Deputy Minister Belortaja for the reception and information, expressing their own interest to see closely and in concrete terms the existing investment potentials in Albania. Meanwhile, they showed an interest on concrete aspects of the legal frame and expressed their interest for an intensive cooperation with Albania.
